Description
A community volunteer-based organization in the village of Homewood, IL, that advocates for and contributes to railroad heritage and preservation in Homewood and the south suburbs of Chicago. Also works with Amtrak, Metra and Canadian National Railways to promote and improve passenger services and address any concerns raised by the community about local railroad issues. Operates and maintains Homewood's Railfan Park and Trainwatching Platform, including preserved Illinois Central GP10 locomotive 8408 and Centralia built caboose Illinois Central 9426. Currently working to acquire Homewood's vintage 1923 IC railroad station for restoration and museum use. The committee also sponsors and puts on Homewood Rail Heritage Days on the third weekend of May each spring. Regular committee membership open to all legal Homewood residents; associate membership open to all interested parties. No fees.
